WHY DO VARICOSE VEINS DEVELOP?
Ineffective venous valves are the prime cause of varicose veins. Venous valves are double-nested structures situated inside the vein’s lumen that allow the unidirectional flow of blood in the direction of cardiac return and prevent the reflux of blood to peripheral areas (retrograde venous reflux).
